The Nissan Versa launches into its third generation for 2020 with an all new platform. The new Versa features exterior body styling that resembles the Altima and falls more in line with the rest of Nissans lineup. Combining a 2.3-inch lower ride height with a 1.8-inch wider and 1.6-inch longer length on a stiffer platform provides a noticeably different driving experience on the road. On the inside interior quality is also improved adding an intuitive infotainment system and advanced safety features like standard automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. On the downside for hatchback lovers the Nissan Versa Note variant goes out of production after 2019 leaving the new Versa a sedan only.
The Nissan Versa is offered in three trim levels S, SV and SR. All are powered by a 122-hp 1.6L 4-cylinder with continuously variable valve timing. In the S trim, a 5-speed manual transmission is standard, while Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional on the S but comes standard on both the SV and SR models. When so equipped, the Versa delivers an EPA estimate of 35 mpg combined gas mileage and up 40 mpg on the freeway.
The S trim offers a healthy list of standard features to keep drivers and passengers not only comfortable but also safe. Amenities like power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and a 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth wireless connectivity all come standard. You also get a long list of advanced safety features like a frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear automatic emergency braking, automatic headlights, and a rearview backup camera.
Stepping into the SV, buyers will find the all essential Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, satellite radio, premium 16-inch alloy wheels, rear cross-traffic alert, heated wing mirrors with signal indicators, and blind-spot monitoring.
The top-of-the-line SR includes 17-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, automatic climate control, remote engine start, LED headlights, keyless door access, and a six-speaker audio system. An optional $300 Convenience Package includes intelligent cruise control and heated front seats.
